PLAN Committee Meeting - Initial Steps

Updated: Apr 20, 2022

A group of women met in a Starbucks and left with coffee and a network. Huddled around the table, we discussed making changes to better our lives. How we as individuals can institute small changes that will impact our lives for the better, whether at work or at home.

“Yesterday I was clever so I wanted to change the world, today I wise so I’m changing myself.” -Rumi

Taking that quote and building off on that, the group threw around some small changes that they were making or had made. We asked the women, "What is one small thing you can change about yourself?" Some of the answers were, wake up earlier as not to be late and feel stressed, make more time for ourselves, do chores in the morning so after work feels less stressed.

We then proposed the question, "What two things can we focus on that help the Earth?" Reusable bags, picking up litter on our walks or wherever we are walking, using waste compost etc.

Our volunteerism campaign started this month, we decided to give back to women in shelters due to domestic violence, homelessness, or mental health, (plus other reasons women might have to leave home, with children or not).

We decided to support one shelter in the three nearest counties, Burlington, Camden and Gloucester. After many calls, we slimmed down the charities to: Mother/Child Residential in Gloucester, Covenant House in Camden, and Providence House in Burlington County. We started to collect gently used bras, dry goods, canned goods along with fun donations such as new nail polish, facial masks, and cozy socks.
